I've seen people wear medical id jewelry before but I never thought much about it. But recently, I have read articles on medical id jewelry for children with allergies. I saw some positive comments about the MedicAlert Foudation, so I decided to go with them.
Below is a picture of the back of Sophie's bracelet, too. I smudged out her medical id alert # in the picture though, for privacy purposes. The smudge mark that you see at the very bottom is where the medical id alert # is printed.
I ordered it over the phone and I was very pleased with the level and quality of service. We choose the Kids Smart Membership:
$15 a year and $14.95 initial setup fee. (Includes MedicAlert ID) shipping & handling not included.
We got to choose a bracelet (stainless steel) - which was included in the membership fee.
The only "con" that I have found so far is the bracelet has a glossy coating on the top that clearly scratches easily. There are other options, including higher priced gold.
But I appreciate the extra security that we have now. It also serves as a red flag, so to speak, for people who don't know her. She wears it all of the time. It has the basic information on the back (her most severe allergies) and then if someone were to call the number, they would be given more information on her other allergies and special dietary needs etc. It just makes us feel more comfortable. In a situation of crisis, it is easy to even forget certain imperative information. When she has had an allergic reaction in the past, I was always sure to give the paramedics all the information that they needed. But, it's always nice for there to be a plan B or a backup, too.
