Do you avoid certain foods because of your daughter's food allergies?
Yes we do. We avoid the foods that she is severely allergic to and do not eat them ourselves or allow them in our house. We have found that is what works best for us.
Where do you buy your coconut oil?
We buy our coconut oil from Tropical Traditions. We also buy shredded coconut, coconut creme and coconut flour from there.
Do you eat eggs and/or dairy?
No, I have an allergy to eggs and I also have casein-intolerance.
Do you find it hard to be gluten-free? What foods do you miss?
100% honest, I do not miss anything. How could I miss the foods that made me sick? I got really sick before I was diagnosed and I don't miss gluten at all. I find it very easy to eat gluten-free because all the foods I love are really naturally gluten-free. If you kick out the pasta and bread, you will be surprised at all the options you actually do have. And if you are still wondering, just check out my recipe sections and see all of the foods we eat!
Do you find it hard when you eat out at restaurants?
We actually do not eat out. With having celiac disease and severe allergies in the family, it's just not worth the risk.
Do you give cooking classes?
At the moment I do not give cooking classes. When I was a kid, my mom was a vegetarian chef and she taught many vegetarian cooking classes. I was always her helper. I would love to teach gluten-free / grain-free cooking classes someday, too (with my daughter as the helper!).
What about a book? Will you be writing a cookbook?
Yes, I do plan to write and release a cookbook someday!
What type of camera do you use for your photos on the blog?
I use a Canon Rebel, and I love our canon 50mm f/1.8 lense. I do take the photos myself. I have learned a lot from my husband, who is an avid photographer. I think the best way to learn how to shoot food photography is practice and trying different angles. I know I still need a lot more practice, too! And one key to a good photograph is to use natural light. I take my food pictures during the day at certain times when the natural light is best in my kitchen.
Do you make money on your blog? If so, how do you do it?
At the moment, I do not make any money on my blog. I started it because I love to write and I also enjoy cooking. I wanted to share our journey being gluten-free. Once I started receiving emails and comments about my recipes being so helpful, I knew the real reason for creating my blog --- to help others navigate their journey of being gluten-free / allergy-free. Some of the comments I cherish the most are the ones about how a mom was able to make her kiddo cookies or other fun treats with my allergy-free recipes. That is awesome.
While I do have an advertisement for Tropical Traditions on my blog, the only thing I would receive is a free 32 ounce jar of coconut oil if someone signs up with my referral code (and to us, that is kind of like money!).
Mostly, I just enjoy this thing called blogging. And I like to take pictures, write, craft, cook and be with my family.
Thanks for reading my blog. You are appreciated!
