Last night, Sophie decided we should have an impromptu dinner picnic. I thought it was a great idea! I made steamed broccoli and cauliflower, sauteed spinach + scallions and mashed potatoes. For dessert, a batch of my fig bars.
This time I used calimyrna figs which are so tasty. They are golden, leaving the fig bars a golden caramel color. And because Sophie loves pink, I split the batch so I could make some with pink coconut flakes. We make large batches of pink coconut flakes, using beet juice to make them pink and a little bit of honey. They are our "sprinkles" and we use them for ice cream too!
Let's get back to the steamed vegetables for a minute...
I probably get way too excited about steamed vegetables, but I really love steamed broccoli and cauliflower. After its cooked, I top it with coconut oil and sea salt.
For the dinner picnic, Sophie set up the picnic table with fresh picked flowers from our yard:
